I am pooped!

Today I was celebrating another candle on my cake and all I can say is I am pooped!! I am so tired I don’t even have time to blog as much as I usually do. I was planning on doing a mini series, but my oven was occupied pretty much from 1 till 6, so there was no space left for baking anything.
It started on Thursday night when my little sister brought the 4 kilo rib eye home. I had my mom ordered it at her butchers and since my sister was there she took it home for me. The thing was HUGE! And it was perfect for a b-day meal. So I marinated the meat and put it in the fridge so it would be all nice for today.

This morning I woke up early, did the dishes, sliced some carrots, bell peppers, onion and zucchini and roasted them in the oven. Then I went to the market, bought wild peaches, melons, mangos, cape gooseberries, fuyu persimmon fruits and plums. I had so much it didn’t even fit on my fruit tray!
The cape gooseberries were so pretty. They looked like little lanterns and were wrapped like presents.
After pealing off the dried wrapping a juicy orange berry appears. They were so pretty I had to show you guys.

They are a family of tomatillos so if you think they look familiar now you know why.
These are wild peaches. They look like tyres and are super yummy. The flavor is even better then the ordinarily round peaches.
Jup I love my fruits.

That afternoon after running errands all morning I had to prepare the rest of the meal. I started with searing the rib eye so all the juices would stay in and keep it nice and moist. Then the whole thing went into the oven on very low (90C degrees) for as long as it took for the meat thermometer to show medium; which was about 6 hours. If you never had or made slow roasted meat before this would be a great time to start.
If this doesn’t convince you I don’t know what else will.

After taking it out of the oven I covered it with some tin foil and left it to rest for a bit. In the meantime I mixed 1 cup of flour, 1 cup of milk and one egg into a smooth batter. I put a creased muffin mould in the oven on the highest temperature it has. Then I took the mould out and filled it with the batter. I then lower the temperature to 200C degrees and baked it for around 15-20 minutes. They should puff up nicely and you’ll have yourself some Yorkshire puddings.

I served the meat (it was bigger then the plates we had!) with some mash celery root mashed potatoes, grilled veggies, tomato salad, onion/mushroom gravy and the Yorkshire puddings.

It was a great meal and we were all so full we didn’t even miss dessert. Lucky me since I didn’t make any. I am so glad not every day is my b-day!
Ps: my little sister made these mini candy sushi, they were too cute to keep for myself.
